Ask for a written quote that names the exact door or gate, its size, finish and any motor. A total alone does not show whether two installers are offering the same job.
The installation scope
- Survey, removal and disposal of the existing equipment.
- Frame, fixings, posts, foundations and making good to the surrounding opening or drive.
- Electrical work, controls and number of remotes, where relevant.
- Any access approvals or planning checks, and who is responsible for obtaining them.
Powered equipment and handover
Ask how the installer will assess risks, specify and check safety measures, and explain manual release. HSE identifies the importance of the complete installation, rather than a single safety device. Ask for the Declaration of Conformity, operating instructions and maintenance requirements.
Warranty and changes
Get the warranty period and exclusions in writing. Check whether it covers parts, labour and call-outs, and whether servicing is a condition. Ask how extra work found at the survey will be priced and agreed.
Use our quote comparer to record what each installer explicitly includes. An unconfirmed item is a question to ask, rather than a reason to reject an installer.
